SCA Mentorship Program: My Experience so Far
I was so sad😞😞…
This was my feeling when I saw the rejection mail for the Cohort 3 of the She Code Africa Mentoring Program in 2020. I had heard of how ladies who finished from She Code Africa become badass at what they do and I really wanted to be a part of it. I applied initially but wasn’t accepted.
Earlier this year, I released a book that was a compilation of some very inspiring female tech journeys and I almost all of them had something t o do with She code Africa. There and then I resolved to put in more effort to be a part of this cohort . I got so excited when I got accepted this time for the Data Science Track.
The journey so far has been amazing and challenging. I’ve met a lot of brilliant minds that have forced me to think better and I have an amazing mentor , Olufumni Countess. She has been so supportive so far and I really appreciate her. So far, we’ve had quite number of tasks.
Week 1
We were given 3 tasks which were to Generate a Password using Python, Guess the number and 99 bottles of beer on the wall. This was quite easy for me, and while presenting my projects and seeing other peoples projects, I got feedback and ideas on how to improve my codes too.
Week 2
In week 2, I had the task of learning and writing an article on any mathematical subject that relates to data science. I decided to write an article on Probability and Statistics in Data Science. You can find it here Beginners Guide to Probability and Statistics for Data Science. With this article, I attempted to explain basic but important mathematical concepts that would aid the understanding of data science and machine learning.
Week 3
We were given a dataset to analyze the US Unemployment Dataset. I used python libraries to analyze the data set and bring out meaningful insights from it. I also did some Data Visualization on the dataset.
In summary, the journey so far has been quite challenging for me. I’m so excited to be a part of this and I really can’t wait to see the me that will result after this process as I learn, relearn and unlearn.
Thanks for reading.
